In Under Siege, Lady Camilla knows that her husband has died in the Holy War, but has kept that fact a secret because she does not wish to remarry and relinquish her freedom.  Sir Balen, a knight who has just rescued her castle from attack, has just taken her discipline upon himself after a spat that ended with her throwing ale in his face. He gives her some great aftercare, but then mentions that her husband would be proud of her and she scrambles off his lap and leaves post haste.

Damn--he should not have mentioned her husband. His arms felt empty without her cradled in them. He had never felt anything so right as the feel of her soft body on his lap. Over his lap.
